"In the pool my greatest achievement would definitely have to be the Beijing Paralympic
Games, you know coming home with a silver medal and two bronze medals at the sweet age
of 16."
"My favourite member of a Paralympic Games before I was competing there would have to
be the 2004 Athens Games and watching my idol back then Amanda Drennan racing in the 100m
backstroke and that was probably the biggest turning point in my life in terms of swimming
because I knew that’s what I wanted to do."
"The thing I’m looking forward to most in London is going in there with a little bit
more experience than I did in Beijing, so I’m going to know the ropes a little bit
more. I’m definitely excited to finish my races and have high tea at the Ritz!"
"My goals for London is firstly to swim well and secondly to have a good time, but I definitely
want to do personal bests in all of my events. You know I’ve been doing a lot of different
training and had a great lead up so hopefully I’ll do a lot of personal best times over
there and with that let’s see if we can get medals as well."
"The Australian Institute of Sport has had a massive impact on my training results. You
know I have massage and physiotherapy and nutrition and everything like that at my doorstop
which most athletes can only dream of."
"Also I’ve got the dining hall, so I don’t have to cook for myself and I’m pretty much
treated like a little kid, you know I’ve got everything available to me."
"Well I’ve been here at the AIS for just over two and a half years now and it’s definitely
been a big experience. I’ve gone from quite an immature, unexperienced athlete to, you
know, an experienced, semi-mature athlete."
"So I’ve definitely stepped up my training since I’ve been here, you know being around
world class swimmers I’ve been able to see what it takes I guess to get to the top of
a world class stage. All I’ve done is learned things since I’ve been here which is great."
"I would probably have to say that the thing that inspires me most when I’m competing
is all the other Paralympic athletes there. You know, we’ve all been through a lot of
hardships and everyone’s got their own disability that they have to overcome."
"Seeing how people I guess pick themselves up after a serious injury or illness is quite
inspiring and it just makes it worth that much more."
