Well, my name is Rubén Cuesta Palomo.
Candy is a synonym of sweet, and man stands for a man, Candyman,
I liked the idea and I kept this name,
in fact, that's not a name that you can easily forget.
Imitating the songs of General, Renato, Bicossi.
In the military I've started to sing their songs and also to compose my own songs,
this is when I´ve realized that I could write.
I was one of the first people who have been exposed to this genre in a serious manner
because this genre was not known in Cuba,
nothing like that was known in Santiago de Cuba, in Guantanamo and in what is known as East.
This is where all the radio stations come from,
because, if you think about it, right now we are at the Caribbean shore.
Everything can easily reach us here.
The Caribbean area is very rich,
it's not only the Merengue,
but also the Calypso, the Socca, the Reggae.
I am from the South Coast, the most Caribbean part of Cuba.
and I present myself as is,
hot.
If Reggaeton didn't exist, if would have been the Taca taca,
the Reggaeton is the Latin music,
it is the Latin Merengue, the Latin house music.
A Latin guy is hot, a drinker, a ladies man.
Latin women are hot, they move the hips,
they like doing their dance ritual.
It is the today's music
and with everything that falls on them,
it wouldn't stop existing.
It will stop existing when the Reggaeton century will end,
and, as I've told you, Taca taca will be next.
What I do before a concert is practicing Kung Fu, just a little,
do some exercises,
and this way, I prepare to face the public.
I'm a dynamic person, and first I prepare mentally,
to start a performance in a calm way.
This is Cristina and Calle 11 (Street 11)
this is where I was born, this is where I was raised.
As you can see, it's obviously a humble neighborhood.
These people are giving me the strength to go on.
When I walk down the streets; because they say,
listen, is that you that's on, people from Havana are playing it, you are good, stick with it.
That is, this neighborhood accepts me, they like me.
If you want to start with salsa, get in line with the fashion.
And it is not as if I brag
that everyone likes me,
If you want to start with salsa, get in line with the fashion...
The world that lives on the margin also has its art, its idiosyncrasies, its culture.
Rumba is born in these worlds, Trova is born in these worlds.
My music may be aggressive, in a certain way,
***, in a certain way,
but on the background there is some sweetness
I see it because I work with a double meaning.
and the spice of a Cuban.
Carnivals are the thermometer,
because here in Santiago de Cuba they only play the good stuff.
My competition here is with the local public, from Santiago de Cuba.
As we say it here, the Rap is war,
the Reggaeton is almost a war,
and I am a warrior.
