Hi. I'm Roxanne Beckford Hoge and welcome back to dressing for pregnancy. Right now
we're going to cover how maternity sizing works. It's a confusing area for a lot of
people because your body's changing so you think you need to change your size. Not so.
If you were a 6 before you got pregnant. You're a maternity 6 now. If you were a 12 before
you got pregnant you're a maternity 12 now. There's one exception. That's if you're pregnant
with multiples and we'll cover that in the next segment. Here's how maternity clothes
work though. Generally as you get further along to the point where you're showing you're
going to need to get maternity clothes. The tops are going to be cut a little bit wider
and they're going to be dealing with comfort. There'll be a lot of elastic. There'll be
empire waists and there'll be a fuller cut to the clothing. The other place where there's
a difference between maternity and regular clothes you might not notice is in the hem
lines on dresses and shirts. They're cut longer than a regular hem line. So when you accommodate
the belly you're not walking around like this. When you order on line just use your regular
size. If you go into a store you're going to get the thrill of wearing one of these
maternity bellies. You put it on under your clothes and you'll see a general idea of what
you should look like. Now on to pants. My two favorite cuts are under the belly and
the comfort waistband. An under the belly waistband does what it says. It'll fit right
under the part of your belly that's growing. These have a comfort fit waistband. They're
thicker and a wider band of elastic that'll definitely give you some support. There's
also the panel waistband but that's on it's way out and I'd have to say these are your
two best bets.
