Here we are in the roussillon, in french catalunia
We are in the Roussillon Villages part up north the city of Perpignan
We love this specific terroir of Roussillon
Because the wines from here bring in our blend a vivid character and an energy that we specially look for
The Syrah are the winners of this cool air influence that we have here during the end summer
This enables a slow and full ripening process
As we are here in altitude and we get this wide temperature range
so the fruits can come down in temperature during the night
and keep their acidity and a welcomed freshness, key for our Roussillon blend.
Grenache is really the cornerstone of this wine with its rich and generous expression
It is the grape from Catalunia the grape from Roussillon
Here we are in Maury up in the Agly valley
where most of the Grenache come from in our blend to be the backbone of the wine.
Because the Pyrénées is such a young mountain
this makes the Roussillon so special
with its huge diversity of subsoils often so close from each other
Here we are located between Maury and Tautavel
on a completely different terroir with these « galets roulés », so typical
of this mineral place where we source some Carignan and Mourvèdre
Mourvèdre will bring in the wine a touch of freshness
much more tanins
and will give their length and complexity when blended with Grenache from Maury
all the challenge when blending is to gather elements from different terroirs
to bring a lively character and to make something highly quaffable,
something more complex.
It is here the Lesquerde terroir, we are higher in altitude
this is a windy corridor, cooler
and here the Syrah does pretty well
It has this specific juicy and spicy character
which is really among the small elements we love to add in the wine
This is definitely all the interest of being a negociant eleveur
to get the oportunity to work on the diffrerent terroirs
and see how the wines from different grapes in different places
speak to each other to build an harmony and not a monholithic expression of one single place
