Don't forget to smile, very important, keep smiling,
if you've ever worked in telesales, erm telephone sales, you'll have possibly heard the expression,
smile while you dial, sounds terrible doesn't it?
ever had a phone call with someone who was really smiling?
you can hear it can't you? You can it's weird,
the reason I mention it here is because its another element of body language,
but people forget because,
who, who, puts their tongue out when they're concentrating?
These are the sort of physical things that can happen when you're focusing on one thing and another thing can happen
One thing that tends to happen when you're presenting is you forget,
If you get focused too much on the mechanics of what you're doing you can just simply forget to smile
I've been told that I get a rather serious face when I'm concentrating on something,
I forget that people are watching,
It doesn't happen so much now, but it certainly used to,
I remember I used to er, I'm a member of a speakers club in Whitley Bay and I was trying to stretch myself,
I was trying to be good and learn new skills instead of just getting up and talking like I usually do,
I thought I'll write a speech and I'll learn it word for word and then I will get up and I'll deliver it eight minutes dead,
God it's hard, I can't, I can't do it, I really can't do it,
I'm never gonna write another speech I'm just going to get up and talk rubbish because that's what I do
But the time, one time I was trying to tell this speech my face had just gone,
and Kate, my girlfriend was at the back of the room going....... and I was thinking, what's the matter with her
it wasn't till I came off later on when she going smile,
I hadn't realised I'd become dead serious,
So smiling is another element of your body language, another one of your body language tools,
So try and remember because it does happen, you forget
And your eyes, I mentioned them before,
when you're in the supermarket and you go oh, 2 eyes we'll have them
your eyes, very very important for connecting with your audience,
Because of the things you can say with your eyes and vise versa the things that you can read from other people,
from eye contact
who has given a presentation and been scared to look up in case they're looking at them,
it does happen, some people....
who's been to a presentation where the person talking never really looked up from their feet,
does happen, difficult, where's the connection there?
face,
where is the connection there?
