In this video I'll make a comparison between the GoPro 3 Black and GoPro 3+ Black specific for drone usage.
When GoPro released the 3+, a lot of people complained on Internet
because GoPro put a closer fixed focus (around 3 metes) on its new camera.
Afterward it seem that they changed it back to an infinite focus like it was on the GoPro 3.
However the image processing is clearly different between both GoPros.
So we'll see which GoPro is better to make aerial photography and aerial movies.
I'll show you the test equipment.
We have the GoPro 3+ Black,
the GoPro 3 Black,
and the drone used for the test.
Both GoPro will be used in the GoPro 3 housing because the gimbal is balanced for the GoPro2
and the GoPro 3+ housing is lighter.
In order to get a relative stable image we'll use the GoPro 3 housing,
the gimbal won't be perfectly stable, that will allow us to compare the software stabilization between both GoPros.
Before we start, we'll check the settings.
We'll record at 1080p 60fps because I think this is the best setting for aerial video from a multicopter.
Protune is off to keep the camera processing on the image.
First we'll check the sharpness on a tree.
Though the image is different between the cameras, the sharpness is the same.
Now we'll compare two photos.
We'll compare the GoPros in a low light environment.
The GoPro 3+ is set on auto for low light recording. (no low light setting for the GP 3)
Here we see clearly a difference between the cameras but is looks like a software processing and not really a difference in the hardware.
If I increase the brightness and contrast on the GP3 we see that the differences are less visible.
Now a comparison of photos with low light.
The results are a bit surprising so we'll activate protune to see what the camera record without processing.
White balance is set on auto and we stay at 1080p 60fps.
I made a lot of test with the WiFi and the GoPro 3 has always been a lot better.
On these two images you can see the farthest distance I could go while keeping contact with the camera,
the black car is the place where I stand, you can see that the GoPro 3 has a far better range.
I don't think the GoPro 3+ is not as good as the GoPro 3, I think it has been more perturbed by my radio signal
because other people on Internet claims that the GoPro 3+ has a better range.
My review stops here. Thanks for watching and see you soon.
