>> Dr. Stephen Pilcher: When I got residency back in 1999, after being chief resident,
I took a job in the mountains of Colorado where I was at some points the only doctor
in that county. It taught me a lot about being a complete holistic doctor. I actually delivered
babies. I took care of patients from birth to end of life. When I met my wife, who is
from Bloomington, she brought me back here and I became an employed physician, which
has its virtues, but at the end of it I felt like I wasn't the kind of doctor I wanted
to be. I wanted to own my patients in all the right ways. Be responsible for them and
know that they are mine and I'm theirs. That's why I went into private practice so that we
could be that kind of practice.
Well, we are all about wellness and healthy lifestyles and we continue to take great pride
in our wellness visits. One of the first questions I do when I walk into a room for a wellness
is I say “What kind of exercise are you giving me?” and what I mean is that is something
that is a very important part of an adult life. Eating right, exercise, and preventing.
With great joy, we often with patients who will loose weight and assume a healthy lifestyle,
I love to take them off medicines. It's by far the greatest part of my day. Personally,
I am an avid runner. I like to think I eat right, although I probably eat too much, but
I eat high quality foods. We are very active in races and fitness for both myself and my
entire family.
So one of the exciting things about being here at Bloomington Primary Care, is that
we have on-site services that go beyond just simple office hours. Of course, we have evening
hours. We have laboratory services. We can draw any kind of bloods we need. We do ultrasound
one or two days a week. We have physical therapy right next door that we work with intimately.
We do in-patient services. We have disease registries to track and follow patients. We
have cloud based electronic medical records that patients have some degree of accessibility
to, including their labs. Into the future, we hope to expand into mental health services
with behavioral counselors that can come here, into this very room, and be able to see you.
We are also looking at more educational services like diabetes educators to come here, for
example like one night a week for a four week cycle, where they can learn more about their
diabetes. We're hoping to get life coaches for healthy lifestyle changes. There's a lot
of things we are hoping to grow into as part of being a patient center medical home.
