Hi, I'm Gina Schreck with SocialKNX. And this is our question of the week. And I got this
question earlier this week and it's very relevant for many organizations. The question is, "Should
we or do we have to follow everyone back on Twitter?" Well obviously, you don't have to
follow everyone back on Twitter. But should you follow everyone back on Twitter, my answer
is pretty simple, if this person or account could be potential business for your company
or if they could refer business to you, then the answer is absolutely yes.
Obviously, you would not want to follow back a spam account. You can look at it and tell
if it's a spam account, if it's a *** account, or if it's just look like a wacko-nut person
that's kind of creepy and scaring you. So I've seen those accounts. And then I would
say, no, you don't have to follow those back. But I would say in business, as an organization,
you want to show that you are open for conversation and building a relationship. And again, they
may not ever hire you but they could refer someone to hire you.
So I see a lot of organizations where they have these skewed numbers where their goal
is to get thousands of followers on Twitter but then, they're only following back a handful
of people. So that shows me that the conversation will be very one-sided and there's not a relationship
being built.
So I would say, yes, you want to follow people back to show that you're open for conversation,
you're open for business, and perhaps are there to learn more about what you do and
pass your name along to their networks. So, always think about that. Go in there at least
once a week and follow back people. Don't auto-follow people back because again, you
don't want to connect with those obvious spam accounts that open your account up for spam
and spamming.
So I would say, take the time. It's not like you're going to get thousands a day but take
the time to go and look at those profiles or at least scan over them to make sure that
you're following people back.
So that is my answer. And we love getting your questions. You can always send me your
questions on my personal Twitter account @GinaSchreck. You can send the questions to our -- @SocialKNX,
our business account, or you can contact us through our website in a variety of ways.
So we are available to you. We love getting them. And until next time, keep the questions
coming. Stay curious my friend.
