My role on a daily basis involves the planning, development and implementation of
emergency nursing education,
for the emergency departments across the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network.
The initiative was really about developing a sustainable model of education,
a structured approach using a series of clinical ladders. These ladders are designed to progress
the emergency nurse from the novice, through to the expert.
The framework provides an attractive learning environment that aids in
workforce recruitment and retention.
It's enabled education to now become structured, measurable and sustainable.
Nursing staff have a clear framework from which to develop clinical competence.
Positive outcomes associated include an increase in the completion of annual accredications
clinical role progression, staff morale, teamwork,
but most importantly quality nursing care.
