Today we are reviewing the only portacot thats lighter than the baby. So lets review and
show you how To with the Phil&Teds Traveller.
Phil&Teds Traveller is a fantastic compact, lightweight portable cot that is suitable
from Newborn to 3yrs approx for either indoor or outdoor use and has had a few recently
updates which makes it all that more practical and user friendly than the earlier edition.
Weighing in at only 3.2kgs the compact package is only 68cm long x 25cm high making it compact
enough to fit in the overhead lockers of an airline OR in a backpack or suitcase. A
travel cot that can also double as a playpen the Traveller has full mesh sides for great
visibility and airflow and sits on a light weight aluminium frame.
So lets unpack the bag & assemble the traveller. in the carry bag you have
2 silver end rails with black connectors 4 silver half rails
4 silver legs with feet the cot fabrics
the sheet set & the self expanding mattress
Take 2 of the silver half rails and connect them together and then do the same with the
remaining 2 half rails. Once you have them connected insert then into the two longest
sids of the cot fabrics, at the top. the rails are curved so you want them curve outwards.
then connect the 2 silver end rails with back connectors to either end of the rails you
have just inserted. Make sure the black connectors are facing down as it’s what the leg rails
are going to slot into later on. your going to then zip up the cot fabrics around the
end rails to secure the frame to the fabrics and it adds extra padding for your baby. Once
you have box sides connected and zipped all the way up your going to flip the frame over
and put all the fabrics into the centre so you can now start to slot the leg posts into
place one at a time, making sure the black connector *** clicks into the designated
slot on each leg.
Once all 4 legs are in place you want to connect the cot fabrics to the frame by slotting the
toggle and rope connected in the corners of the cot fabris into the slot and grove in
the base of the feet.
Once this is done the cot frame is fully assembled and you want to move onto the mattress So
you want to twist open the nozzle found in the top corner, to allow air to start filling
the self expanding mattress, take off the elastic ties and unroll the mattress, don’t
forget to close off the nozzle in the mattress once it has completely expanded.
Now your going to add your sheet, the Sheet is like a close fitting pillow case in its
design so does take a bit of maundering to put on. then once that is done your going
to place your mattress into the cot via the side opening or top access.
At each end of the mattress are 2 loops that you need to pull through the top sheet, They
are designed to be connected to hooks found at the base of the cot fabrics to lock the
mattress into place, this is a great extra safety feature although can be a bit fiddely
to connect at first.
So now its fully assembled a fantastic design feature that has not changed is the ability
to be able to unzip one side, I found this really handy when travelling with a smaller
baby and being able to get better access when putting her to bed and taking her out. The
traveller comes in two colours Black and the one see here which is the silver. You can
also purchase additional accessories like a sheet set & a UV mesh top to help keep the
bugs off your little one.
Pros: -Brilliant compact package when its packed
away perfect for travel. - Very light weight
- The updated design of the mattress that now sits on top of the base instead of being
inserted into a pocket is a welcome change. -The side access for baby.
the Large mesh sides allows great visibility to baby and airflow.
-And its great the cot matters does have some padding to it unlike some other portacot designs.
Cons: -Assembly & disassembling does take a few
steps and parts so does take some practice, especially if your trying to do it in low
lit situations. -The sides of the cot are high & your baby
or toddler sleep on ground level, so picking them up off the floor level via the top can
be a stretch however you can always use the side access.
Now to pack away the traveller start with your mattress with the end nozzle open so
your aim is to squash as much air out as possible on the first roll. then your going to secure
the nozzle once you feel you have squashed as much air out as possible and then re-roll
the mattress as tightly as you can and your then going to secure the elastic bands to
secure the mattress in the rolled up position so its going to fit in its bag a little easier.
Onto the frame you want to flip the frame over and detach the toggle and rope from the
slots in all four feet to release the fabrics.
Then remove all 4 legs by firmly pressing in the black connector *** that locks the
legs into place until you have all legs removed.
unzip the cot fabrics away from the end connectors on both ends and disconnect your end connectors
from the silver rails. Pull out both silver rails and then your going to fold fabrics
so we can tuck it into the carry bag.
Then its just a matter of getting your carry bag and starting with you bigger items first
stacking each part into the carry bag and disconnecting the side rails back into the
four smaller pieces and then your ready to go.
