CAITLIN ... WHAT HAVE
YOU LEARNED?
GOOD EVENING,
KRISTEN. CERTAINLY
NOT THE OUTCOME
WE WERE HOPING
FOR THIS SATURDAY.
LATE THIS
AFTERNOON JUSTIN
SHULTS' BROTHER,
LEVI SUTTON, WROTE
ON TWITTER 'THE LAST
THING MY BROTHER
EVER TOLD ME WAS
THAT HE LOVED ME'.
HE WENT ON TO SAY
'WE FOUND OUT
TODAY THAT
COWARDS TOOK MY
BROTHER'S LIFE JUST
WEEKS AFTER HIS
30TH BIRTHDAY'. HE
SAYS HE WAS BLESSED
TO HAVE JUSTIN AS A
BROTHER, CALLING
HIM SMART, KIND
AND GENEROUS.
IN A STATEMENT
ONLINE JUSTIN'S
EMPLOYER, CLARCOR,
CONFIRMS HE DIED IN
TUESDAY'S ATTACK AT
THE BRUSSELS
AIRPORT... SAYING 'WE
GRIEVE WITH HIS
FAMILY AND
CONTINUE TO OFFER
OUR SUPPORT AS

UNIMAGINABLE LOSS'.
JUSTIN AND HIS WIFE,
STEPHANIE, A
LEXINGTON NATIVE,

DESPITE TUESDAY'S
ATTACK.
THE AIRPORT
OPERATOR IS NOW
PREPARING TO SET UP
TEMPORARY CHECK-IN
DESKS.
LEADERS THERE SAY
FLIGHTS COULD
RESUME AS EARLY AS
TUESDAY.
A LEXINGTON MAN IS
NOT GOING TO LET
ONE BAD EXPERIENCE
... STOP HIM FROM
SPREADING GOOD-
WILL.
THURSDAY
NIGHT...RODNEY
BROCK WAS OUTSIDE
THE WAL-MART ON
NEW CIRCLE ROAD ...
COLLECTING MONEY
FOR VETERAN'S
OUTREACH... WHEN,
LEXINGTON POLICE
SAY, A MAN RAN UP ...
PULLED OUT A GUN ...
AND STOLE ALL OF HIS
DONATIONS.
TODAY... BROCK WAS
BACK OUT
COLLECTING MONEY.
WKYT'S MIKE BEIER
TALKED TO HIM ... IN
OUR TOP STORY AT
SIX.
"You take,
alright."Rodney Brock
is a veteran who
volunteers his time to
raising money for
Veteran's Outreach.
"That's what I'm doing
out here, veterans help
veterans. I want to help
people."
But on Thursday while
taking donations at the
Walmart on New Circle
road, things took a turn
for the worse. Brock
tells us a white man in
his early 30's around
5'10 with a thin build
walked up to his table.
Rodney Brock/Veteran:
"He pulled a gun out
he had one arm around
the money and he had
the 38 pointed to my
side."
The donation buckets
are screwed to the
tables to prevent
instances like this one
from happening, but it
didn't stop the man.
Brock says the suspect
grabbed the entire
table and threw it into
the cab of a pickup
truck. He says the man
then jumped into the
passenger seat and the
truck sped off.
"It was a Dodge puck
up truck with a black
and white stripe on the
side, about 80
something model."
Brock says the crook
got away with roughly
300 dollars. He was
also injured in the
incident and had to
spend the night in the
hospital.
Flash forward a few
days and Brock is back
at his post... undaunted
from the scary situation
he went through.
"I'm totally committed
to the veterans.
Veteran helped me."
And in return Brock
says he wishes he
could help the person
who robbed not only
him, but Veterans'
Outreach.
"I would forgive him.
I'd like to see him
caught. I'd like to see
him punished, but
basically there's some
way I'd like to see if I
could help him."
In Lexington, Mike
Beier, WKYT.
LEXINGTON POLICE
ARE STILL SEARCHING
FOR THE MAN WHO
ROBBED BROCK.
A JESSAMINE COUNTY
COMMUNITY IS
REMEMBERING A
MOTHER ... AND HER
TWO CHILDREN
TONIGHT.
BILLIE JOE HETTINGER,
HER SON, AND
DAUGHTER DIED LAST
WEEK... AT THEIR
HOME IN LOUISVILLE.
POLICE SAY HER
HUSBAND, BRAD
HETTINGER, SHOT THE
FAMILY ... SET FIRES
INSIDE THE HOME ...
THEN TOOK HIS OWN
LIFE.
BILLIE JOE IS FROM
JESSAMINE COUNTY.
HER FRIENDS ARE
HOLDING A VIGIL FOR
HER RIGHT NOW ... AT
EAST JESSAMINE HIGH
SCHOOL.
SHE AND THE
CHILDREN WERE
BURIED AT CAMP
NELSON YESTERDAY.
DEPUTIES IN WHITLEY
COUNTY THINK THEY
HAVE FOUND THE
BODY OF A MAN WHO
WENT MISSING
EARLIER THIS MONTH.
THIS MORNING ...
DEPUTIES FOUND THE
BODY OF 48-YEAR-
OLD JOEL MOSES ... IN
DEBRIS ... NEAR THE
CLEARFORK RIVER.
THEY FOUND HIM
ABOUT A MILE FROM
HIS TRUCK.
POLICE ISSUED A
GOLDEN ALERT
EARLIER THIS MONTH
FOR HIM.
HIS AUTOPSY IS
SCHEDULED FOR
SUNDAY MORNING.
AND IN NORTHERN
KENTUCKY ... CREWS
HAVE RECOVERED A
BODY FROM A CAR ...
THAT WENT OVER A
BRIDGE AND INTO THE
OHIO RIVER 11 DAYS
AGO.
THE CAR WENT OVER
THE COMBS-HEHL
INTERSTATE 2-75
BRIDGE ... AFTER A
CRASH.
RESCUERS COULDN'T
GET TO THE CAR FOR
SEVERAL DAYS ...
BECAUSE OF STRONG
CURRENTS IN THE
RIVER.
THEY FOUND ONE
BODY IN THE CAR.
THEY HAVE NOT YET
IDENTIFIED THE
VICTIM.
EASTER WEEKEND IS
HERE!
TEMPERATURES
TODAY HAVE BEEN
NICE AND MILD ... BUT
TOMORROW COULD
COULD BRING WITH IT
... SOME STORMS.
WKYT'S JIM
CALDWELL HAS YOUR
EASTER EGG HUNT
FORECAST.
Easter weekend is here!
You can see a little of
everything this time of
year and this one will
be no different. We
might even have some
stronger storms late
Sunday.After what
ended up as a
miserable Friday, our
Saturday recovered
quite nicely.
Temperatures jumped
into the low, mid and
upper 60s! There were
even a few spots that
touched the 70s in
southeastern Kentucky.
The problem with all of
this is the fact that it is
still March and
anything goes this
month. That means
another big swing in
temperatures will be
possible... again!
LAW ENFORCEMENT
IN MADISON COUNTY
HAD A LITTLE
FRIENDLY
COMPETITION TODAY.
TEAMS COMPETED IN
THE FIRST EVER
BATTLE OF THE
BADGES.
THEY RAISED MONEY
TO SEND OFFICERS TO
D-C FOR NATIONAL
POLICE WEEK.
THOSE OFFICERS ARE
GOING TO HONOR A
MAN THEY LOST LAST
YEAR ... OFFICER
DANIEL ELLIS.
WKYT'S SABIRAH
RAYFORD TALKED TO
COMPETITORS.
Zachary Stokes:
"When people would
say Richmond loss an
officer it wasn't just the
Richmond police
department. It was the
Berea Police
Department it was the
EKU Police department
it's was the sheriffs
office it was state
police and it was the
jail. Because we all
work closely together
and everybody knew
him! So it's not just our
loss it's is everybody's
loss."
And that loss of fallen
Richmond Police
Officer Daniel Ellis has
sparked the first annual
"battle of the Badges"
basketball tournament.
Tricia Holman/Former
Madison County
Sherrifs office
employee:
"The bringing of
community together
and showing the
support not just for her
family and for him, but
for all the families that
are involved in law
enforcement. The
wives, the girlfriends,
the moms, the dad's
you know everybody
that is connected
somehow. I think this is
a great opportunity to
come out and
support."
The first battle of the
badges game has
officially kicked off
right behind me, but
for one Richmond
police officer he says
there's more at stake
than winning a trophy.
Zachary Stokes:
"With all this going on
with the competition to
go towards us going to
D.C. To get to honor
him.. I think it's all part
of that healing process
just moving forward.
There have been
numerous fundraisers
for Officer Ellis' family,
but this one in
particular is for his
family in blue to honor
him one last time at
the National Law
Enforcement Memorial
in Washington D.C.
"For them to be there
it will just mean so
much more to have so
many officers that
knew him obviously
and so many officers
from this county and
this jurisdiction and
some of the agencies
to be up there with us
when they call his
make for final roll call..
You can't put into
words how awesome
that is going to be."
In Richmond, Sabirah
Rayford, WKYT.
ORGANIZERS HOPE
THE EVENT WILL
BECOME A TRADITION.
"This doesn't happen a
lot when we bring in
four or five different
teams for training. "
STILL TO COME ON
WKYT ON THE C-W
LEXINGTON... SEARCH
AND RESCUE TEAMS
FROM ALL OVER THE
STATE ARE IN SCOTT
COUNTY.
WE'LL LET YOU KNOW
WHAT THEY'RE
TRAINING FOR.

Most of your early
Easter plans will go
untouched. I am talking
about the sunrise
services and midday
egg hunts. Those will
likely be fine. Late in
the day a potent
system will once again
move into Kentucky.
This will spark rounds
of showers and
thunderstorms late in
the day. Timing for that
will be late Sunday and
into Monday morning.
There's also a chance
some of those could be
on the stronger side. It
is something I'll watch
very closely as we
move forward.
FIRST RESPONDERS
AND THEIR K-9'S MET
IN SCOTT COUNTY
TODAY FOR STATE
TRAINING. THE
PAIRS WORKED ON
SEARCH AND RESCUE
DRILLS.
WKYT'S MIKE LINDEN
TALKED TO
PARTICIPANTS.
"Ready? Find him!"For
Thomas Layow and his
two-year-old german
shepherd Ace, each day
with Jefferson County
Search Dog Association
is a learning
experience.
"I've been with them
about six months, I'm
still a new recruit."
Layow and Ace are two
of the more than 55
volunteers from across
the state training in
Search and Rescue
drills in Stamping
Ground.
"My name is Randy
Catlette, I'm the search
and Rescue
coordinator for Scott
County and I am so
happy that you guys
came out here today."
When he's not
volunteering Randy
Catlette is a captain
with the Scott County
Fire Department.
He says getting all of
the search and rescue
volunteers together in
one place provides
invaluable experience.
"This doesn't happen a
lot when we bring in
four or five different
teams for training.
Usually these teams
never meet until
they're actually on a
real search."
"Not it, come on!"
While K-9 units and
troopers on horseback
are common in the
Search and Rescue
field in Kentucky, aerial
drones have made
search and rescue
efforts not only more
advanced but safer too.
Drone operators say
using new technology
can take them places
on a search they were
never able to go to
before using a
helicopter. From
anywhere to a few feet
off the ground to up to
400 feet in the air.
For volunteers like
Thomas Layow and
Ace, today's training
helps prepare them for
real-world rescues.
"We all get to learn
how everybody works
together. We have a
larger group we'll be
able to see how
everybody else works
and we'll all be able to
work together. We're
looking forward to
today."
In Scott County, Mike
Linden, WKYT.
ORGANIZERS PLAN
ON TRAINING AGAIN
THIS SUMMER ... TO
PREPARE FOR
HUNTING SEASON.
LEE K'S IN NEXT WITH
SPORTS ... WHERE U-K
FOOTBALL KICKED OFF
SPRING PRACTICE IN
FRONT OF THE FANS..
HARD TO BELIEVE IT'S
THAT TIME OF YEAR
ALREADY... WE WILL
HEAR FROM MARK
STOOPS FOLLOWING
TODAY'S OPEN
PRACTICE
AND THE KENTUCKY
WOMEN'S SEASON
CAN TO AN ABRUPT
END LAST NIGHT...
MATTHEW MITCHELL
SAYS A POOR
SHOOTING NIGHT
WAS THE DIFFERENCE..
THAT'S NEXT IN
SPORTS.
BROUGHT WITH IT
SPRING FOOTBALL..
THIS MORNING, THE
FANS HAD THEIR FIRST
OPPORTUNITY TO GET
A LOOK AT THE
WILDCATS IN A
PRATICE SETTING AT
COMMONWEALTH
STADIUM... IT WAS THE
FIFTH PRACTICE OF
SPRING AND THE
COACHES HAD A
CHANCE TO PUT
WHAT THEY'VE
LEARNED INTO GAME
SPEED... DREW BARKER
GOT THE FIRST TEAM
REPS AT
QUARTERBACK... FOR
THE MOST PART,
MARK STOOPS LIKED
WHAT HE SAW.
Mark Stoops: "Good
work today. You guys
could tell it was good
work. It was a lot of
work. Our players were
able to handle more. I
just told them we
made a lot of mistakes
today. It's always going
to be like that in the
spring. You're going to
look sloppy. We're
nowhere near where
we want to be, but our
guys are able to handle
more. Like I said, we
got a long way to go
but I like the way we
are competing. You
could see for yourself
today offensively the
tempo. The attitude.
Those guys are doing
some good things."
IT WAS ALL SET UP
FOR THE KENTUCKY
WOMEN'S TEAM TO
PUNCH THEIR TICKET
TO THE PROGRAM'S
FIRST FINAL FOUR...
ONLY A PAIR OF
GAMES IN RUPP
ARENA STOOD IN
THEIR WAY...
BUT THE WILDCATS
LEARNED LAST NIGHT
THAT A HOME CROWD
WOULDN'T BE
ENOUGH TO
OVERCOME A TOUGH
WASHINGTON TEAM...
THE CATS WERE DONE
IN BY A POOR
SHOOTING
PERFORMANCE TO
OPEN THE GAME ---
THE CATS SHOT JUST
21 PERCENT IN THE
FIRST QUARTER... THEY
SHOT JUST 32
PERCENT IN THE FIRST
HALF.
AND BY
WASHINGTON'S TALIA
WALTON... WHO
BURNED THE CATS
FOR 30 POINTS.
Matthew Mitchell:
"Sure, I'd love to shoot
60 percent a half in
every half, that would
be great. We'd work
toward that. But I think
we got in the game
tonight where those
kids just locked in and
made some plays. Then
we just kept getting
the ball at the rim time
after time after time. I
don't have a stat sheet
here, but I think it was
something like 13
more shots. I mean, we
got a ton more shots.
We just kept working
and battling, and the
ball just would not go
through the hoop."
FOR A SIXTH-
