I went through the typical recruiting process in high school and I visited lots of schools
but I was set on going to Division I and that’s what I decided was the right fit for me. So,
I found Oakland University in Michigan and went there, and ended up deciding I would
come home and here all these stories about how great IUP was. I knew they had a great
Speech Pathology program and that’s what I decided I wanted to do and I heard all these
amazing stories about their coach and the swim team and I ended up checking it out and
deciding it was a better fit for me. One of the things that set the IUP Speech Pathology
Department apart is the fact that we have a speech and hearing clinic actually on campus.
So in my pre-student teaching I was able to observe and even now I’m able to actually
work with clients in the speech and hearing clinic which I feel is an experience that
not everyone gets before they get to go to Grad school. The other main reason I came
to IUP, the main reason I love it so much is the swim team. I mean just the level of
excitement I think both from the team and from the coaching staff is something I had
never really seen before. I mean I had great coaches growing up and a great team but there’s
something about being with these guys that keep you motivated and wanting to come in
everyday. It’s stuff to get motivated to get up at 5 in the morning every morning of
the school year and come jump in a really cold pool but if there’s anyone who can
make you do it, it’s these guys, they make you do it and enjoy it.
