Surprise! Well congratulations, we are so excited that you are a Truman Scholar, and
what better way to serve your community and university than with public service. So we
know that you are going to be an outstanding representative of Southern Mississippi and
we look forward to following you and keeping up with you and making sure that you're successful.
Yes sir. Congratulations. Thank you so much. So what do you want to say, there's the camera.
Just give me a second. Oh my goodness, wow to the top man. Oh gracious, ok thank you
everybody for all the work that you guys put in, thank you of course to my second father,
Dr. Holloway, everybody, to Ms. We've been working on this for like a year, oh my goodness
I'm still in shock. Am I supposed to say something now or can I just like...Do you want to sit
down? Yeah I'd like to sit down. This is our second Truman winner in three years, last
year we had a finalist. So in the past 3 years; 2 winners and one finalist. And I think it's
also an incredible testament to our National Scholarship Officer, Ms. Robin Curtis, who's
been with us since the fall of 2008 and has had an incredible record amassing these kinds
of scholarships by working closely with very talented students and even the most talented
can use the shepherding that fine folks like Robin provide and we're incredibly proud of
what she's done and incredibly proud of how Brandon has represented the Honors College
and Southern Miss. Brandon is the son that I never had, and I told Dr. Paul that Brandon's
mother was my first student upon graduation from college from oakwood bound to talent
search. I've known Brandon since birth and I'm very proud of him, he's brought a lot
to our office as a work study student. And congratulations to you on behalf of your church,
your church family, all of the many mothers that you have in your mother's absence, and
on behalf of the university's family congratulations to you.
