Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute. Work continues on the Ohio River to
replace the aging Milton-Madison Bridge. The 81-year-old structure connecting Milton, Kentucky
and Madison, Indiana is no longer adequate for car and truck traffic. Innovative construction
methods are being used to minimize traffic disruptions, eliminate the need to relocate
historic buildings and complete the job more quickly. The project includes building a new
bridge on temporary piers along the old bridge. After the deck of the old bridge has been
removed and existing piers widened, the new bridge deck will be moved into place. Currently,
sections of the new steel truss bridge are being preassembled on barges. An earthen embankment,
which will serve as a temporary ramp on the Indiana side of the bridge takes shape. And
the existing concrete bridge piers are being reinforced. We’ll continue to provide updates
on this project as it nears completion. This has been your KYTC Minute. Visit transportation.ky.gov
every Thursday for updated information.
