Hi, this is John and in this clip we will be removing the brick molding. Our brick molding
goes around the outside of our door and it covers up the gap between our door frame and
our house framing. Now you don't have to remove it in all applications, but I'm going to show
you the procedures for removing it just in case you need to remove it. On our house we
have a lot of paint, and if we just start cutting and tearing this out, we're going
to tear up the pain and the woodwork really bad. So what we're going to do is take a utility
knife and we're going to cut the paint so that we can take that brick molding off just
a little bit easier.
And we're just going to make that cut all along our door. Next we're going to follow
the same procedures that we did with the inside trim. We're going to stick our putty knife
or our drywall knife in and we're going to start working that trim out. Then we're going
to come back with our hammer, and using our drywall knife as a backing, we're going to
pull that brick mold away. Now a couple things that we do run into, because of the age of
the wood around our brick mold which we removed, it did crack some of the wood around it. This
wood, you'd probably want to replace. However, the home owner of this particular house has
asked us just to completely remove all the wood around the door. We're just going to
continue our same process until all the wood is removed. Once all of our brick molding
is off as well as all the extra wood around the door, we're ready to move forward.
