It’s Melissa Ingold from TimeFreedomBusiness.com and today I want to talk about the power of
positive recognition. What I mean by that is anyone that you are working with in your
business, whether it’s a virtual assistant, a graphic designer, a writer, anyone that
you have working with you in your business, you want to make sure that you are always
recognizing them, calling them out in a positive way for the work they’re doing for you,
anything that you feel like they need to be recognized for. Maybe they worked overtime
to meet a last minute deadline or worked really hard to get something done for you on a rush
basis, so you really want to recognize their efforts.
When you start to recognize them for the value that they bring to your business and you create
a great relationship with them, then that creates loyalty. They feel really loyal to
you and they want to keep working with you and keep doing a good job for you. Everybody
likes to be told, “You’re doing a great job. You’re fantastic. You did that work
so quickly. I’m so appreciative of you.” People like to be recognized for their work
and for the efforts that they’re doing. If you never say anything positive, if you
never go out of your way to make sure that someone feels good about something that they’ve
done for you, then they’re just not going to feel that invested, they’re not going
to feel valued and appreciated, so there’s kind of a disconnect that happens.
I try to tell my team a lot if they’re doing a job, “This is great. Thank you.” Even
just a simple thank you for recognizing something that they just completed. Whether it’s,
“I got that webpage up that you wanted, it’s ready, here’s the link,” and just
saying, “Awesome, thank you.” Just thanking them for the job that they have done for you
instead of just ignoring them and thinking it’s done and not saying anything.
Birthdays come up and I love to show my appreciation of them by sending a little gift, whether
it’s flowers or a box of cookies or chocolates, just something fun, even just a little gift
card. I also show my appreciation around Christmas time when I like to send gifts or cash bonuses.
I have newer people, people who have been with me for a long time, people who do maybe
one little thing for me and other people who do a lot of things, so I base my Christmas
bonuses on where they are in my business and what they’re doing. If they’re working
with me all the time, we’re talking on a regular basis, they’re doing a lot of work,
then they’re going to get a bigger cash bonus or a bigger gift card, as opposed to
someone who does one little thing a month. They might get something a little less, but
still showing my appreciation to them, going out of my way to make sure they feel appreciated.
I also like to make sure my project manager that when she’s getting work back from people
she’s thanking them. Just a simple thank you can have so much of a positive effect
on the people that are working with you. Any way that you can show your appreciation, whether
it’s in words or recognizing them on their birthday, that creates so much loyalty because
they’re going to love you, they’re going to want to keep working with you, and keep
doing the best work possible for you in your business. They’re going to be with you for
a long time. I also like to help my team out if they are
going through a tough time. Maybe I would help them in some way, whether it’s throwing
a little extra cash their way or helping them in some other way, or just saying, “I’m
so sorry you’re going through that. I’m here for you, let me know if I can do anything.”
Just the power of positive recognition can go such a long way in your business and really
build a solid foundation and solid relationship with your team. You don’t have to go overboard
and be throwing money and gifts at them like crazy. Like I said, on their birthday, around
Christmas, or as a little surprise. Maybe they worked they worked overtime and worked
really hard to make sure they could create a successful product launch for you and maybe
you just send them a little arrangement of flowers or an Amazon gift card and tell them
how much you appreciate all the hard work they put in and the overtime they’ve worked,
and how much you love having them working with you in your business. Just, “Here’s
a little thank you.” Send a handwritten card in the mail. Use SendOutCards,
you could send a card with a note inside and maybe a gift card to Starbucks or something,
“Sorry we can’t have a coffee together. I would love to sit down with you and enjoy
a cup of coffee, but since we can’t do that here’s a little gift card for you to go
and enjoy a cup of coffee on me.” Just something so simple.
I just wanted to tell you that if you’re not thanking your people enough, maybe you’re
not showing your appreciation enough, try and make the extra effort to do so. I know
you get really busy and there’s a lot going on in your business and it’s not like you
mean to do it, you just don’t even think of it, you don’t think of how just thanking
someone for finishing something or sending you something can just have such a big impact
down the road. You want your people to feel appreciated.
If they’re not feeling appreciated, they’re just like “I’d rather work with people
that are going to appreciate the work that I do for them,” and they may go somewhere
else just to get that from somebody else.
There’s that. I hope you enjoyed this outsourcing your business tip. I’ll see you next time.
Bye.
