What’s up guys, Kartik here from Techtested, and today I’m going to review the HyperX
Savage 64gb memory stick. The device is manufactured by Kingston and
comes in large sizes up to 512gb. The read and write speeds are claimed to be excellent
in class for its small portable design and it is aimed at both content producers and
gamers alike. This device is part the professional HyperX gaming series of SSDs, gaming headsets
and computer accessories. What stands out about this device is its unique
design and excellent five-year warranty. It’s priced competitively at around £30 in the
UK and offers high storage capacities. The product itself has a sleek finish with
the brand’s red “X” shape embellished upon a matte black rubber-like surface.
I feel as if the product could be used well in any device that supports the USB 3.0 standard,
such as laptops, windows tablets and game consoles.
Let’s now compare the speeds at which this device offers to others that are already out
there. For comparison, we’ll be using a Sandisk
Extreme SD card, a standard USB 3.0 Hard Drive, and two other flash storage devices.
First up, the Sandisk Extreme SD card, with a claimed write speed of up to 60 megabytes
per second Right from the offset, we can see that the
device is throttling, only performing at half the which it is claimed to perform at. Even
the read speed is give or take half the speeds of what expected. Disappointing…
Lets now try the USB 3.0 hard drive. First things first, let’s be aware that is it
not flash storage so it is expected to have much slower speeds, but it does have a higher
capacity than all the other drives we are looking at today.
As we can see, it seems to be holding the 95 – 100 MB/s mark, with some minor throttling.
Onto the read speed. Numbers seem to be on the low 100s, but not a massive difference
between both speeds overall, giving a good sustained overall performance.
Next up, a cheap and generic USB 2.0 flash memory drive. This wasn’t expected to do
well but the results were even worse than we anticipated
Now onto a faster USB 3.0 drive, that can be purchased at a local tech shop for around
£15. The read speeds seem the be 1 and half times faster than write speeds on average,
with the highest speeds near 200 megabytes. Last, but definitely not least, the aptly-named
Savage drive. Speeds of this HyperX product showed an exceptional performance being in
the high 190 write speeds and 370 read speeds. Even though there was quite some throttling
seen at parts, it definitely blew its competition out the water, with speeds even higher than
claimed. So that’s all you need to know about the
Kingston HyperX Savage memory stick. It’s a great buy and we thoroughly recommend it.
One thing that’s also worth saying is that if you purchase this drive in its 128gb version
or higher formats, the drive’s read and write speed also increases again, making it
even more capable. This drive’s price and size make it a great competitor to the regular
spinning hard drive. Thanks for watching, don’t forget to subscribe. This has been
