You know, you ask about vision that the vision I think leadership is a lot about setting
the vision and the governor and this concept of one transportation organization
we've got a vision statement that says that the Massachusetts DOT is going to lead
the nation in transportation excellence and I think that's a little bit to me like
you know any the parents out there will say well after you've told your fourth grader
enough times that they're not good at math they become bad at math
well for a lot about workers I think after getting
beaten over the head off or beaten by the press or by others about that transportation
is
you start to think that we can't be great again but
when I think about it is completely different the Commonwealth of Massachusetts had Frederick
Law Olmsted
great transportation leaders like Olmstead
Tip O'Neill
Ted Kennedy
John Volpe
Michael Dukakis
Those are all exports of the commonwealth of Massachusetts
most of whom serve one way or the other as national leaders either in Washington or New
York or in Boston
or elsewhere in the Commonwealth we can be great again
I demand that we strive for that objective
and it's a great goal to shoot for so I want to restore
a lot of that pride
we want to lead the nation
we've been provided with the legislators help and the governor's vision
with a statute that permits us to be the most dynamic
intermodal transportation organization in America and we need to take advantage of
that
