Episode 19 - sin
today's word is sin.
Sin, yes.
Sin is a strange word, it is related with doing bad, isn't it? It is a moral thing.
Mainly we have.. We choose it because we have it in the gospel of Sunday.. Second
Sunday..
Of the year.
..of the ordinary time, where the Baptist in front of Jesus says: "Behold the Lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world".
And why a lamb takes away the sin?
Well, why a lamb takes away the sin? This is a good question. Sin in Hebrew is
Hatat, which is related with a root which could be translated more correctly
with the term to transgress, transgression. So the sin in reality is a transgression
of a law of God.
Yes.
For us sin is not simply a transgression of a law of God, because
I can also transgress a law of God without being aware of it.
Yes.
Or I can transgress the law of God, maybe purposefully, but without committing a sin.
Do you have any example?
Well for example if I .. the present law allows abortion, isn't it?
Yes.
So, if I oppose the present law, I transgress it..
Yes.
I don't give my cooperation to the execution of an act imposed by the present law, in this
sense I don't commit a sin, but the opposite.
Yes yes.
So, transgression.. Not all transgressions of law are a sin, other transgressions
of the law are actually indifferent.
Yes.
To the moral aspect. But for the Old Testament the law is only the one of God, and the human law
does not exist and the transgression of the law is anyway.. Let's say.. anyway it is hit,
both if you know it or if you don't know it.
Yes.
So, since this thing imposes purification, God concedes the blood of the sacrificial lamb
purify and avoid the consequences of the transgression.
What was this sacrificial lamb? I mean?
Well, it's a lamb that was sacrificed for that occasion. A lamb, a mutton,
various types of animals.
On purpose to..
With the purpose of having the blood that purifies..
From the sins. Those we know and those we don't know.
Right. It is a gift of God.
Yes.
The idea is that it is a gift of God, book of Leviticus 17. God gives the blood of animals to purify this sin.
hen we understand why the Lamb of God is the one that takes away the sin
of the world. You see, we understand that in this text the sin actually
does not only have the meaning of moral sin..
Yes.
.. But it also has the meaning of everything that puts the world in a position of being far
away from God, even if I can not possibly find a guilty person for that sin. The Lamb of
God who takes away the sins of the world is the lamb that definitely reconciles God with the
world.
