Hi! I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I am going to show you how to make
this delicious traditional Red Velvet Cake. The next step is going to be mixing up the
majority of our liquid ingredients. This will be our buttermilk, vinegar and flavorings.
So we are going to start with 1 cup of buttermilk. Be careful when pouring it because some of
those lumps will cause it to splash a bit. Then we are going to add 1 tablespoon of red
food coloring. Because it is an entire tablespoon, the easiest thing to do is get a bottle of
red food coloring instead of measuring it out drop by drop. So this is what is going
to give the Red Velvet Cake its name sake color; carefully measure that out. You don't
want the bottle to drip otherwise the red food coloring will get everywhere. Make sure
when you lay that spoon back down that it is not some place it is going to get on your
counter tops or your clothing or your towels. Then from here mix this up a little bit first.
You can just use any spoon or I'm using a spoonula. You see we've got a beautiful red
red color. Now we are going to add 1 teaspoon of distilled white vinegar. At least if this
spills, you don't have to worry about this getting all over everything. And then 1 teaspoon
of vanilla extract; measure this out. Then we are going to mix this up so that we are
not seeing very many streaks and then it is on to the next step.
