Hi, this is Miranda Thacker with your KYTC Minute.
It's been an active snow and ice season for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
Now that the temperature has warmed-up, we thought we'd catch up with Snow and Ice coordinator
Michael Williams. Voice of Michael Williams: At this point the
Cabinet -- we have used right at 360,000-plus tons of salt, a little over one million gallons
of Calcium Chloride for this winter season. That's more than we have applied in the last
two years. It doesn't compare yet to the record year in the 2010-11 winter season. I guess
one big difference again with this winter is that it has been a season-long winter.
In years past when we have had busy, costly winters -- it was more contained within a
four to six-week period. And then you would have a few weeks of a break -- and then maybe
back into some winter. But it has been pretty steady pretty much throughout this winter
season. Hopefully, we've seen the last of the winter
weather for this year. But if not, you can get the latest traffic
and travel information by calling 511 or logging onto 511.ky.gov
With your KYTC Minute, I'm Miranda Thacker.
