How a patient's prostate cancer was misdiagnosed
Hello I'm Maryland medical malpractice attorney
Marcus Boston and I'd like to talk with you
Today about a 42 year old man who when to his doctor
Because of concerns of prostate cancer the reason
The reason why this pateint had these concerns
Was because his father had died of prostate
Cancers and he had other relatives who also
Had passed because of prostate cancer so hearing
All of this his doctor agreed that screening
Should start taking place and the doctor ordered
PSAs to be done not PSAs are kinda hotly debated
In the medical community about whether they
Help assist with prostate cancer screenings
But in this particular case the doctor thought
That this would be a good idea and he ordered
One to be done for the patient the 1st PSA
Came back and revealed a score of 1.5 or 1.6
The doctor told the patient that hey everything
Is ok but I'm going to go ahead and monitor this
With you so at the second visit that the patient
Have he came in for an exam and the doctor did
A PSA with him and this time the PSA results had
Doubled the doctor informed the patient that
Everything is still ok you're all right with
This so the patient is thinking that everyhing
Is ok the patient comes in for the 3rd visit and
An exam was done but no PSA was preformed
And the patient complained about this to no
Avail the 4th time the patient came in to visit
The doctor another exam was done but there was
No PSA done the patient again talked to the medical
Staff in the doctors office and was like hey
Guys you didn't do the PSA for me so the PSA
Was not performed the 5th and this is when the
Patient had to come on up and confront the
Doctor about it and the patient was like doc
Look I've missed the last PSAs your office
Has not performed these exams with me and the
Doctor told the patient no yes they where dont
You are mistaken we did do it so the patient
Is kinda confused himself was it done or was
It not done well this time the patient still
Told the doctor look doc I want one done now
And the doctor went on ahead and did a PSA but
At this time this is when things got bad when
The results came back the score was over 12
On the PSA more testing revealed that the
Patient had developed prostate cancer and a
Review of them medical records revealed that
The patient was correct the patient was not
Confused there was not the PSAs were not
Performed during the interim in that middle
Time those 2 visits there was no PSA performed
And experts also concluded that if the doctors
Had been monitoring the situation and had
Been testing like he was supposed to that the
Patient would have had a very good chance of
At treatment and being able to get past this
So why have I taken the time today to talk
