R: Hi This is Rachel - and this is Kendra - and you're watching This Week in TV.
R: Today we have the week's scheduling, followed by a spotlight on TV in the great state of
New York. Kendra, what's on?
K: Well Rachel, on Monday, we have the season premiere of Bored to Death on HBO at 9pm which
I know we're both excited about then on E!, don't miss Part 2 of Kim's Fairytale Wedding:
A Kardashian Event. Also at 9, catch the Scare Tactics mid-season premiere on Syfy, then
at 9:30, the HBO series premiere of their new comedy, Enlightened. On Tuesday, Tim Allen's
Last Man Standing has its series premiere on ABC at 8pm, then on MTV check out the series
premiere of Chelsea Settles at 11. So, that's the beginning of the week, what's on the rest
of the week, Rachel?
R: Well, Kendra, on Wednesday we have the season 6 premiere of Psych on USA. Then, over
on Sunday the 16th we have the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC.
Following the premiere, it's also the debut of Talking Dead, the hour long talk show hosted
by Chris Hardwick where fans can ask questions about the series.
R: This week's premiere of Bored to Death and last week's premiere of How to Make It
in America got Kendra and I thinking about the Great State of New York. While mainly
shows takes place in New York, far fewer actually FILM in New York. Bad News How I Met Your
Mother Fans, it's actually filmed in Century City, Los Angeles. So here's a few series
that actually do film in New York and use that location to their advantage.
K: Gossip Girl is all about the Upper East Side and NYC life in plot and in shooting.
When the cast members aren't in their swanky penthouses, they're out on the streets of
New York City strolling very slowly and fashionably through Central Park, jumping into yellow
cabs, or having really, really important conversations in trendy and cultural locations like the
New York Palace Hotel, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Babycakes NYC bakery, and plenty more.
K: Next we have 30 Rock which, when filming in a studio, is actually right next to the
Gossip Girl studio in Queens. 30 Rock obviously hearts NYC with its setting being the NBC
Studios at 30 Rockefellar Plaza, which is very often shown on camera as Liz and friends
arrive at work, get evacuated from work, have awkward romantic scenes in front of work,
or protest work. We also often see other NYC highlights like Central Park or even New York
City guest stars like Mayor Bloomberg.
R: As mentioned before, Bored to Death is filmed in New York and this series is loaded
up with Brooklyn scenery as Jonathan lives and gallivants around there as a private detective.
Brooklynites might recognize filming locations including Park Slope, Brighton Beach, Williamsburg,
Greenpoint and Fort Greene. Local businesses have also been used as is in scenes, including
Smooch Cafe, Ralphie's Deli and Carol's Daughter.
R: How to Make It In America is the other HBO show currently loaded up with New York
scenery. THe show - an East Coast Entourage - about 2 young aspiring fashion designers
- is loaded up with footage of the stars on the subway and in local galleries and restaurants.
Star Bryan Greenberg has commented that the show is a real tribute to the city, shooting
on location in every borough. So, what are some of your favorite shows shot on location
in New York?
K Closing: That's it for this week, don't forget to stay tuned to SideReel's YouTube
