On the top floor of Polhill Library is the Teaching Practice room.
It has an interactive whiteboard
and is a good space for groupwork
or using your laptop.
The stock is listed on the Library catalogue
so you can search by name or by topic.
It ranges from early years to secondary school material.
The collection splits into two sections.
The colour-coded crates and plastic wallets
contain teaching kits and packs.
For example, the orange science section has kits like these teeth
or the velcro water cycle.
One of my favourites
is the evacuees suitcase in the history section.
At the other end of the room are fiction and non-fiction books
just like in a school library.
There are also Big Books –
supersized books to be read in class
(for example we’ve just bought this supersized Goldilocks and the Three Bears) –
and there are story kits with puppets.
