Step 5: Capture an Article or Locate a Book.
Once you find a book or article that you are interested in, click on the title
to view the item's
information in OneSearch. On this item detail page, OneSearch provides an
abstract or summary of the item.
There are also additional keywords below that might help you find other related
material.
Also notice, that on the right-hand side, are citations for this item in different
formats.
These citations can be highlighted and copied and then pasted into a document.
Note that the citations are computer-generated,
so it is always wise to double check them for accuracy before submitting them
in an assignment.
If you would like to view the full text of an article,
click on the "Full Text" button to link to one of our 200 plus databases
that provides access to that article. Once you click on full text,
a new screen will open letting you know about the item's availability.
In this case the full text is available online
in Academic Search Complete. Click on that link to connect to the article.
Once the article is open in the database look for the PDF button and open article
in PDF format.
In this format the article can be easily captured by printing,
emailing, or saving it for yourself. Let's return to our OneSearch results and
click on the "Books and Media" tab to view the relevant books and media.
To retrieve a book, look at the location, call number, and availability information
listed.
If the book is available and lists a location of "Library Retrieval System,"
click on the "Request" button to request the book and the book will be available
for pickup
on the first floor within 15 minutes. If the book is available and lists a
location of third or fourth floor bookshelves,
use the call number and go to the appropriate floor in the library
to retrieve the book from the bookshelf. Alright, now it is your turn!
For your final task you will need to return to your own OneSearch results,
use the refinement tools to make your search more efficient, and then find two
scholarly journal articles that seem relevant to your research topic.
Copy and paste each article's citations, in APA format,
into the boxes on the next screen. Alright,
click the next button to begin your final task.
