>> I’m Mirima Boudra, Activity Manager for the Labour Migration Academy.
The Labour Migration Academy is an annual event that brings together stakeholders from various institutions
such as civil society, unions, employers’ associations, researchers and International organisations.
During 2 weeks, they share their experiences and ideas on a variety of topics related to labour migration.
>> Coming to Turin, for me, is the opportunity to share my little experience about migration related issues and also to benefit from other participants' experience which are coming from all over the world.
>> The course was created in 2007 and at this time, the training was only given in English.
As the years passed, we've added other languages like French and Spanish.
But we’ve also realized that participants didn’t have the same priorities, the same requests.
Migration is a vast topic which involves both politics, social protection and fund transfers; participants have necessarily different interest.
The idea of the Academy came to break this linear course to create selective courses to give options to participants.
>> I think that the more relevant aspect of this Academy is the variety of contents, and also the possibility to have a direct contact with many renowned experts.
>> The first edition of the Labour Migration Academy took place in 2011, and the training was only offered in English.
This year, we’ve tried to extend this idea of interregionality of the course by adding the French language.
In 2012, we had more than 40 countries represented, both countries of origin and destination countries.
Beyond the exchange between workers from various institutions, there is also the dialogue between countries of origin and destination countries, because they each have their specific priorities, questions and challenges.
Resources persons are impressed by the level of participants. And if participants learn from resources persons, resources persons also learn from participants.
>> It’s always a pleasure to meet participants from various background, both geographic and institutional.
>> Participants come from various countries with diverse environments, and beyond the academic and educational contributions, there are the exchanges between different stakeholders.
>> The Academy, from what I know, is quite unique.
Of course, there are other trainings; but being able to offer this optional course, a tailor-made training, while having a place for free exchanges during 2 weeks, it’s quite exceptional, it’s quite unique.
2013 will also be around this idea of sharing experiences and promoting different regional experiences.
So that at the end of the Academy, participants can say: I’ve spend 2 weeks with people with whom I don’t necessarily have anything in common because they are from countries with a completely different reality from mine.
But in the end, we have things in common; what is taking place in his country or organization could be interesting for mine and vice versa. So ultimately, the Academy strengthens links and networking, which continue after the course.
The LMA is not only 2 weeks; it gives participants the opportunity to create durable links.
And seeing participants asking for other participants' expertise after the Academy, it’s an added value.
>> It will be useful to build the project strategy and to obtain concrete results.
