Hi, I´m Jonas from the Recording-Blog.com and today I wanna show you
how to improve your acoustic-recording with max 50 cent and without any plugins
As I said our todays topic is to improve your acoustic-guitar-recordings with a total maximum cost of 50 cent
and this ain´t about some fancy recording-secrets, plugins or expensive-special-mics
It is so obvious but also often overseen by guitar-players
especially when recording acoustic-guitars
Hope you like this video and click thumbs up to also show all other viewers, that you like it ;-)
but now let´s have a listen to our pattern
I played the riff two times, my acoustic-guitar plugged directly into the preamp
but with a slight difference and I´ll play it now to you switching from one track to the other
and afterwards I´ll tell you what I did!
A simple acoustic-guitar-pattern ready to use in your mix
but with a big difference in sound
One is harsh, sounds aggressive, crisp with a lot of highend
the other one with less highend, less aggressive and all in all quieter
and exactly that´s the difference you get when recording the way I did it
And here, Ladies and Ladies, here´s the difference:
Picks!
Here I have - and I named the tracks after them - Acoustic 1.2
This one is 1.2 mm thick, a really heavy, non flexible pick
This one´s really strong and gives a lot of feedback from the string.
and the strings sound clear, aggressive and crisp
And this one´s very thin, 0.38 mm and you can see it here
veeery flexibel and you can also hear it´s sound
This sound also will be recorded
So, when using the thin pick, you can grab an EQ, make the sound thinner and hide it very nicely in the mix
Sometimes you only keep the sound of the pick on the strings
and this way you´re morphing your harmonic instrument to some kind of percussion
On the other hand the thicker pick let´s you play harder, it sounds more aggressive,
more present in the mix and you can hardly change this with a simple EQ if at all
So the thicker pick makes your acoustic more present in the mix!
This way you get two different characteristics of your acoustic only by using diferent picks

Hope to see you again, have the best of all weeks, bye, bye and Jassu!
