Hi, I’m Anne-Hermine Allain.
After earning my high school diploma with a focus on the sciences, I went to the University of Southern Brittany,
where I studied math, computer science, and statistics for two years.
Then I applied for admission to Ensimag at the Grenoble Institute of Technology.
In high school I really enjoyed math and science,
and I started looking at Ensimag in my senior year.
I liked the idea of being able to study both math and computer science.
Now that I’ve been here for a few months, what I really like
is the core curriculum that gives us a solid background in
computer science and applied mathematics.
We get a solid understanding of basic math and science
and time to decide on a career path.
We also spend a lot of time on lab work and specific projects,
where we actually use the concepts we learn in class.
This is very rewarding and, most of all, a great learning experience.
We have a pretty hefty workload, but my math and science background
help me keep up in almost all subjects.
I think the most important thing is to be self-motivated, which most people who transfer from another university already are.
Next year I plan to select a major in mathematical models, images, and simulation,
and maybe later get a PhD in applied mathematics
to eventually become a university professor and conduct research.
I think that the kind of people who tend to be attracted to Ensimag are interested in new technologies,
which is true for most of the students here.
Today Ensimag is far from being a school for geeks.
The student body is diverse and most students have a variety of interests, as witnessed by the large number of student clubs.
For example, Ensimag has an active arts club that organizes
trips to the opera, concerts, and museums, as well as rockabilly dance and film clubs.
These clubs are open to all Grenoble Institute of Technology students, and a lot of members are from Ensimag.
I know that women are traditionally not interested in high-tech careers,
but today technology is everywhere—in the objects we use
and the things we do in our day-to-day lives.
Most of the time we don’t even realize it!
A degree from a school like Ensimag equips engineers to help create tomorrow’s digital world,
and it’s crucial that women play an active role.
Otherwise, they will be left out of a major transformation in our society.
