So here under our Sites Options, we have five different selections that we can choose from.
I am going to explain what each of them does and then we'll move on.
Folder Listing provides a listing of a directory's contents if there is no index
file, that is, there isn't a file that's listed in this box right here in a
directory that someone accesses. So if you've got this checked, if you don't
have one of those files inside of a folder on your website and someone goes just
to the folder without specifying a file, what they'll see is a listing of all
the files that are in that folder. I think that that's not a great way to represent
your site. I think that if you're going to provide a
Folder Listing, you should do so very directly and do it in HTML and make it
look like your site and make it look good. I like turning this off.
If you want people to be able to access your site as a web server, as a
read/write access site, you can turn on WebDAV, click Save, and then you can go
into the finder, we're on a client system, so this is going to represent pretty
much what you would see on your system. I am going to go to Connect to Server and
will just put in http://server.groundswellgear.com.
We will click Connect. It will ask us for a username and password.
I will just put in the username and password that I have already set up, click
Connect, and there we are. Right there, it just pops right in and we
don't have any file sharing protocols besides WebDAV turned on.
This is the way that it saved. So we've got read/write access into this file,
we can move things around, and we can only access the information that's relevant
to our website. This is great for authoring.
I am going to disconnect this really quickly and we will move back over here.
So, I am going to turn this off though. CGI Execution indicates that your server will
or will not perform CGI script. If you've got a CGI on your web server and
you don't turn this on, it will not initiate as you expect it to when people access
it. So, if you are using CGI programs, you need
to turn this on. If you've included Server Side Includes directives
in your web pages, they will not be run unless you put a checkmark in this
box, so be sure that you do if your webpages include those.
And as it says right here below Allow All Overrides, the web service is going to
look for additional configuration files. It says so right here, but only if this is
checked. So, if you do put in configuration files inside
of your web directories, then you will need to check this in order for them
to work. That's pretty much it.
In the next movie, we're going to talk about Realms.
