Hi! Let's start off by saying this isn't a paid artwork - but I did get permission to
draw it. Has anyone ever seen a logo for a business or company and thought to yourself
'That's awesome! What a nice logo design!'? I bet it's not just me who has thought that.
In this case I really liked a logo for a fishing brand called 'daiwa' who make
reels and merchandise. I'm not a huge fan of fishing, but the logo design was so sharp,
clean and simple it really inspired me to draw it! As I've been really into naval objects
and themes after recently finishing Assassins Creed Black Flag, I decided to add in a few
features to the logo such as a steering helm, anchor and fishing hooks and lines.
It seemed pretty self explanatory to add these objects into a fishing logo - I almost could
have gotten away with drawing a spinach can in the background and it still would have
blended in with the nautical/fishing theme. Probably wouldn't have had the same effect
as this version, but nonetheless, pretty compatible unless you have never heard of Popeye. In
that case, which rock have you been living under?
The watercolour drips I added at the beginning of the drawing were really easy to justify
- it looks like the fishing line and anchor had been freshly pulled up from the ocean
and is dripping down. This is probably one of my only artworks where the watercolour
drips actually make sense in the context of the video. Most of my other designs I just
add watercolour drips because it looks cool. As
the watercolour drips and nautical theme is so compatible, you'll be seeing a lot of similar
artworks towards the end of 2016 and the start of 2017. Why so long away? I have tons of
other drawings to publish before then.
The artwork is nearly finished right now - so please let me know in a comments below if
you liked the artwork or if you're a fan of daiwa or fishing in general! I have to give
a shoutout to daiwa for being really cool about
letting me draw their logo for fun! Thanks for watching!
