I was diagnosed with Chron's. We didn't know it quite at that time. Its called Ollier's
disease, she has tumors that grow on the inside of her bones and they grow near the joints
and growth plates. Sometimes it is to the point where she literally cries herself to
sleep at night. Theres nothing better then to be able to help someone who is at one of
their lowest points in life. Whether its a chronic or terminal illness, or the passing
of a loved one. They helped us with every single medical bill that came in. Yes. All
we had to do was show them receipts. Austin Cops for Charities has supported us financially
to help support medical trips that initially we would not be able to afford to do on our
own. I became early on aware of a lot of the systemic issues affecting the African American
community, more so that was critically important to me was the systemic issues affecting our
youth. Safety and Security. That is the first and foremost thing that all children need
in order to thrive. If they had a place that they really could connect with and that they
could really access and that would be cost free, we knew that lives would be transformed.
Im Lt. Gary Rosch, Ive been with the department almost twenty-nine years now. What I like
about doing this or being involved with the Austin Cops for Charity is the fact that we
help children in the communities where we work and we live and its giving back to the
communities and the city of Austin. We have a lot more certainty in life, we can actually
plan ahead. And we don't feel like we're, just. Day by Day. Always waiting for something
horrible to happen. They have probably facilitated some about forty or fifty workshops here with
our kids over the past seven years. So they are heavily involved, and it does make a difference.
We had the annual Christmas toy give away, called Merry Memories. And who should arrive
but a whole bunch of police cars right in the middle of our function? And, they opened
the back trunk and what did they take out? Toys! There have been many opportunities to
reflect and reminisce about things in this department, the Austin Police Department.
The *** of Officer Jaime Padron was one. It makes you realize that life can be over
in an instant. Its a very sad day in our lives but the fact that we're able to assist the
Padron family and the children is one that brings great pride to each of us. I think
that you should give. Because you never know who, or when someone is going to need it.
And it might be you, it might not ever be you. But somebody is going to need it. Its
about giving back and Cops for Charities is apart of our success. This summer alone, we
were able to get seventy-five kids, hired. So its that type of support that helps us,
you know make a difference in this community. The Austin Cops for Charities makes me extremely
proud to wear this uniform, to say that I am an Officer for the City of Austin. Im very
proud to be an Austin Police Officer. And you know, Officers do wonderful work everyday,
and the fact that we have an organization like Austin Cops for Charities that reaches
out to the community here in Austin, makes me extremely proud.
