Hey my name is Jon Foreman, and I play in a
band called Switchfoot and Valentine's Day is here
Happy Valentine's.
I was thinking about Valentine's Day. Did a little bit of
research not much is known about
St. Valentine. One legend has it that he was in
prison for his faith. While in jail, he prayed for
the jailer's daughter who was blind
miraculously the jailer's daughter
suddenly regained her sight and then
later when St. Valentine was eventually
martyred for his faith, he left a note for the
jailer's daughter who had recovered her sight
that said... was signed Your Valentine. And
that story made me think of this
greater love. I've probably written more songs
about love than any other subject and
I'm not alone with my fascination. True love is a
stunning sight to see. The highest forms
of love take on this sacrificial nature
putting other people's needs before my own. A
love like this changes the world. With
this world that we're in right now in
turmoil, What if this Valentine's Day was a
day that we actually began to practice
that kind of love for the people around
us. Giving of ourselves, praying for the
people that we disagree with.
Maybe this Valentine's Day, sure, give
give your sweetheart some sugary treats
and take her out for dinner but what if
you actually went down and helped
out at the soup kitchen what if we went
to the old folks home what if we gave
of ourselves to people that we disagree
with? So this Valentine's Day
let's make it about this deeper kind of
love. Let's practice like St. Valentine.
And Happy Valentine's Day to you.
