The nominee to serve as the next U.S. deputy defense secretary says North Korea is highly
likely to launch more provocations, in the clearest hint yet Washington's North Korea
policy will remain the same for the foreseeable future.
During a confirmation hearing at the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday, Robert Work
pointed to a strong possibility of more provocations by the North, as its leader Kim Jong-un looks
to tighten his grip on power. Work said Kim remains in full control of the
regime and is consolidating power. He added North Korea's weapons of mass destruction
and the regime's proliferation activities are a direct and serious threat to the United
States and its allies in the region.
