Host: Now exactly how hard does she work? Let's give a few examples of her "hard-working nature".
Let's take a look...
[1st example] While filming "Love Story in Beijing", while having a 40 degrees fever,
on a winter night, Yang Mi walked into the freezing cold-to-the-bone ice lake to film. What was this situation?
YM: Ummm...it was, when filming that scene, [See note #1 in description for video]
because at the time filming that scene was very important to me;
that is, it was a very important scene in the development of the story...
she [her character] needed to go into the lake to retrieve a ring that her boyfriend had thrown into it before,
it was a ring that he originally wanted to use to propose to her.
So it was a ring, that she wanted to go retrieve...
and it turned out we started filming a bit late. When we started, the lake had already frozen over.
But that scene we absolutely *had* to film, so that time they...
and also it was a night scene, so they got a crane and used things to smash through the ice,
to open up a space about the size of this stage, like this round shape, just this big,
opened it up; actually around it there was still ice this thick,
we could all see it floating on top.
And there was this region, they let me go down, and...at the time, the water was up to here,
I guess, approximately. Acting the scene of a girl holding a flashlight to retrieve the ring.
Host: [2nd example] Having a 40 degrees fever, and even the doctor said get some rest,
yet you still plead with your agent "I can't not do my job!!!"
YM: Everyone knew I was really tired, needed some rest,
and I think I just happened to have 3 days off to rest,
and maybe the first day I was just lying at home very comfortably,
and the second day I will call my management company,
"*sigh* Have I been forgotten by the world...how come you're all ignoring me?"
And then I will want to go back to work. And even including that time when I had a 40 degree fever,
because it was a pretty serious illness, 40 degree fever that did not go down for several days.
The doctor said, after you complete the course of IV meds you *must* go home and rest.
If you do not rest it will become pneumonia, if it's pneumonia it will be even more serious.
So of course I said, "OK". And then the doctor said,
"you *really* can't go back to work, you can let other people do the work for you."
I said "I absolutely have to work." "Absolutely not, let other people substitute for you."
Host: The moment you heard, "let someone else substitute you",
then it's even more not ok, you absolutely have to go do it, right?!
YM: No no, I was actually thinking, "but no one else can go do my filming for me..."
And then I said, "Alright, I know."
And then after I finished getting the IV meds I went directly back to the film set.
Host: Saying something from my heart, I think even though you have already been called "workaholic",
but I think the workload is really *too* much.
What kind of things do you have to accomplish, or what kind of goals do you have to achieve,
to make you slow down a bit?
YM: Mmmm... Host: Or is it that you have to meet a certain person?
YM: I guess so, yes...I guess so. Host: What kind of person would you have to meet?
YM: Just...actually...people say, "how would you have time for dating", or whatever,
I say "Indeed, I don't have time." Now maybe...when you haven't yet met that person who,
that is, who makes you willingly want to slow down/stop for him...
maybe...I hope to meet him, I guess.
Host: What kind of guy is he?
YM: Someone is is very responsible, and who understands me, I guess.
Actually my requirements are not high, but I think...you will only know once you meet him, it'll be him.
I think I will definitely meet him, I guess, I should.
And once I meet him I hope we can be together forever, not splitting up.
And I do hope to meet this someone, and actually...I wish everyday to meet him sooner.
"A young girl with dreams who refuses to give up"
"in order to prove herself"
"in the crowded/"noisy" entertainment industry she silently slaves away."
"After finally 'cailai baihua chengmi' " [="finally made honey after collecting nectar from a hundred flowers"]
"For who is bitter, for who is it sweet?"
"Due to the fame and stardom that came suddenly"
"and her straightforward/direct, sharp-tongued personality,"
"it caused Yang Mi to be embroiled in 'when one is famous, there comes many negative rumours/gossip' "
Host: Perhaps it's because you are too pretty so everyone will think,
"Hey did Yang Mi do plastic surgery on her nose, and her eyes, and her chin?"
YM: Yes, I-- Host: Did you do any plastic surgery?
YM: Yes I have met with these type of questions before, directly asked me...
So I say, "look, try it out yourself, feel my nose"; like this
will there be anything that seems off?
Like this, I will pinch my nose in front of other people,
But I guess maybe people *still* won't believe me.
So I say...because you can say, I got into the business pretty early on, I guess.
At first when I was doing photoshoots for magazines [when she was a model]
I was 15 or 16. Now even back then people had said,
had said I had done plastic surgery.
And then afterwards, in...ummm...
2007, when I was filming director Shaohong's movie "Door",
at that time I extracted 4 teeth, causing my face to become much thinner.
And my whole face sort of "sunk in", so people said again,
"sucking out fat from the cheeks" or something like that,
that kind of plastic surgery.
And then recently because, maybe, "Gong"'s popularity when it aired,
People once again think it's plastic surgery.
So to me it's already become a habitual, normal thing.
And...I myself will not really care about it.
If you would see my mom and dad here,
you will discover that I actually very much resemble them.
My dad, even including my grandpa's nose, are all like this,
and also the same with my eyes, yes, things like that.
Host: Why does everyone keeps saying you had plastic surgery?
YM: I guess it's a compliment towards me! (laugh)
Host: A "compliment" towards you? (laugh)
YM: No no...[just kidding]
Host: I think only for pretty girls would people be suspicious of her every day,
did she get surgery done.
Host: Is this a photo from before? YM: No it's a photo from 2009...
Host: Who do you resemble more...your dad? YM: This photo is maybe...
well, it's still alright. But if you see them in person
actually you will find that I really do resemble them quite a bit.
Host: Your eyes are more like your dad's, a bit...
YM: Eyes are like my dad's, my dad's eyes are very deep-set, that kind,
and both my parent's actually have quite dark eyebrows too.
And my dad, his nose is actually quite high.
Host: This was performing at what show, that you were wearing an outfit like this?
YM: It was for an endorsement/ad, during the photoshoot,
my parents came to visit me. Because before then it had already been a long time,
half a year that I hadn't seen them.
And then it happened that I came to Beijing to shoot an ad,
after all that time, so they came to see me. Host: Speaking of your mom and dad
it seems like you guys are not often together.
YM: Yes, I cannot see them very often. Host: How many time can you see them in a year?
YM: About 2 weeks time total.
Because...like when I am filming, for example in 2009 and 2010,
each year I stay in Hengdian for over half the year.
They all say that's my "second home".
And even if I'm not in Hengdian filming I'll be somewhere else filming.
So pretty much, I can't see my parents then.
Like maybe we can meet when I make time in Beijing, also when I'm working there,
and then they come visit me on set.
Lately when I have been in Beijing working, no matter when it is,
They will always come by to accompany me. And everytime they come they will bring stuff--
things I like to eat, and hot soup, and fruit that is already washed--
and they will put apples, strawberries, kiwis, etc. all those,
they will cut them up all nicely and put them all perfectly in a box,
then put in a toothpick and bring it to me to eat.
Host: What kind of hopes did your parents have for you when you were young?
I know when you were 4 years old you already started acting,
was it because your parents had a plan for you?
YM: They didn't have any plans at all, my parents are very carefree/laid-back type of people.
"Whatever you want to do, go ahead and do it, we will support you.
