How Do Computer's work?
By Krishay, Alan and Lilly
There are four major functions in a computer such as
input,output, storage and processing
Input is anything that goes into your computer. It can take a variety of forms such as
the keyboard and mouse
output is anything that comes out of the computer
some examples of output devices are headphones and display screens
these are examples because they are the receivers of information
for example display screens deliberately show you the information you just have processed and
headphones
show you this sound which you just created
storage is the computers capacity to hold and retain data
RAM or random access memory is
short storage that erases once you shut down your computer
on the other hand the HDD or hard disk drive
works as permanent storage for your computer. These are both storage devices.
the last function processing
completes tons of tasks per second
the CPU central processing unit is the main
processing device in a computer
the CPU processes millions of commands per second
it is sent tasks from
any of the components and complete's them. Most components are held on the motherboard.
all components of the computer can be separated into hardware and software
Hardware is the physical parts of the computer, the "stuff" you can touch
all input or output devices fall under hardware because you can
touch them
Software is a set of instructions that the computer uses to work
these cannot be touched the computer uses a combination of 1's and 0's
known as binary to represent letters and numbers
it translates commands into binary to process them
and the translates them back into English or any other language
