Remember periodicals are materials that are published at regular intervals.
Trade publications are periodicals targeted at individuals in a particular
industry or business.
They may contain elements of both popular press magazines and scholarly
journals.
For example,
If you like music, television, and movies, you may read Entertainment Weekly, a
popular press magazine.
However those who make a living from creating music, television shows, and
movies would likely read Variety or Billboard, trade publications.
Here are some other trade publications
Broadcasting and Cable is aimed at people working in the television and
radio broadcasting field, cable, and multimedia.
Fire Engineering
is for people in fire and emergency services,
And Education Week
is for K to 12 educators and administrators.
Let's look at characteristics of trade publications:
many articles have no author listed,
when an author is listed his or her affiliation is rarely mentioned,
the authors are experience specialists in the field or industry they're writing
about,
the articles you read will generally be brief,
some may be longer and those will provide research in the field,
trade publications are intended for people in the industry, profession, and
prospective employees,
the articles present practical information related to the industry,
profession, or trade,
the ads you see will generally promote materials relevant to the profession or industry
the trade publication is aimed at,
sources used by the author may be mentioned but there may not be a
references list for many of the articles you read,
trade publications are obtained by subscribing to the publisher and also may
be found in your library,
and they are usually published weekly or monthly.

when you need more credible material but at an easier to read level,
and when you're doing research on a career.
