I'm going to offer some quick tips on how to get rebates. So there's really three different
types of rebates out there. In store rebates are instant rebates. Those are ones where
you'll go around the grocery store and you'll see maybe little coupons or stickies applied
to different products. And usually you can apply that right at purchase. Right? It's
an instant rebate applied. It's not a lot of work. There's not a lot of them out there,
but it's good to keep your eyes open for them.
The second one and maybe the one we're most familiar with is mail in rebates. So we make
a purchase and in that purchase is all kinds of paperwork and information that we can fill
in and send it. Ultimately, they send us a check. It's a lot of work, but it's ultimately
worth it, because the rebates that are generally attached to those can be pretty significant.
The third one is cash back rebates. And this is where when you're making an online purchase,
you can earn automatic cash back on those purchases. Shopathome.com is one site that
offers this. And basically, how it works is you go to shopathome.com or another site like
it, click out, make a purchase, and you'll get cash back back into your account. You
have to be signed up and you have to make sure that you start at the site. But you'll
ultimately get cash back on all of those purchases.
I think oftentimes people think those are kind of a too good to be true, that doesn't
seem, how can that possibly work? It's really not. If you think about it, ultimately those
retailers or advertisers are paying those companies money to send traffic. And they
just share a portion of that commission with that end user.
So what we would recommend is keep your eyes open for those in-store rebates. Ultimately,
make sure that if you do get mail-in rebates that you do use them, because there's a lot
of good savings there. Whenever you're shopping online, make sure you are trying to get cash
back on that purchase.
So there's just a few tips on how to get rebates when you're shopping.
