I didn't necessarily have that many expectations going in but it was
certainly enjoyable from an entertainment perspective I thought but also
it's refreshing to see
fracking and the discussion about natural gas drilling in somewhat
mainstream media and and having... I felt like a pretty reasonable discussion
about an obviously... there's a
message to the movie for sure that that's not one side or the other but
uh...
all things considered I was impressed with how everything was
presented.
Yea, it was a little 'kind'
but... it got the message across very nicely.
I was pretty simple, and there were definitely some surprises,
so surprise plot twists that I was not
at all aware of.
I did not see them coming, but it was definitely good.
It met my expectations... It kind of exceeded them a little bit.
I was expecting a kind of mainstream Hollywood movie
you know and
I have very low expectations for that usually so
I was glad that it was an engaging story that the character development
was rich
and stuff like that. I agree.
There are a few moments...I mean
it's a movie so there's it's kind of like you know a made-up world.
So there's a few moments in there that are like you know
designed to be like a movie, so it's entertaining. It's a story.
So I wasn't going into it expecting that it was going to portray real life,
you know a real-life situation.
But it was a story that I really enjoyed.
I did enjoy the film... I've tbeen very involved in
fracking activities. I'm against it in general and I don't think it's safe so
I was really motivated to see this movie, and I'm thrilled and delighted that
people with the caliber of Frances McDormand and Matt Damon
and the directors and so on that made it...
It did live up to my expectations and it was a fun movie. I thought it really kept you
going.
It had a lot of drama
and good acting.
There are some things about it that seemed realistic. I think the general
theme of the love of the land and Hal Holbrook's role
in that was legit,
and I think that is a real big message here that is the probably the
takeaway message for me.
And I assume other people wil take away.
I thought that the
the people who were like
the landsmen...
I think that they were
probably more... they appeared in the film to be more educated
and more aware than I think
your everyday landsmen would be.
I don't think they would be that
educated or articulate or
aware.
I've never really interacted with landmen.
So I don't know what they like.
But I think that it rang true as far as
people having lots of..
having differing opinions and differing experiences and people being able to
change
their opinion based on
what facts they have, or what they're hearing, how they're feeling and what
they're seeing and experiencing
from other people.
I also like that narrative of transformation
i feel like... it takes a lot of courage to
have an honest relationship with what we're doing in our lives whether it's
like our work or
where we're living or how we're living. It takes a lot of courage to face those things
in an honest way and
I think twhatt was a really powerful narrative in the movie was
the transformation that Matt Damon's character goes through just like
being a landman and then and then...Don't give it away...
just like
you know thinking about what that means you know and i think that that's a
really interesting thing. I think there's some really interesting plot
twists in there... about
...
the environmentalists and...
and I don't want to spoil the movie so Ii won't say anymore but...
I thought it was a really good movie and i would certainly recommend it
to other people. I'm delighted that they made it. I hope that people who are
not already
involved in the question of fracking
are drawn to it, if nothing else because hey Matt Damon is really quite
cool
and then if they come away then with the take-away message that we should really
love our land and our resources and that
this is just not a risk worth taking, then we'll be all good.
I think it's nice and there's a movie that's fun and engaging and has good
characters that's
skeptical of the industry, you know
big industry moving into small towns. I think that that's a really important
narrative and I don't think it's biased at all. I think that it actually is like
a small dropped adding to what could be a balance, you know.
We need a lot more movies like this. I definitely would recommend it,
for anybody just for the fun of it and also for the educational value of it. It would be great.
