We are talking today about arm bars, how to apply them and how to apply them safely. Now,
we are going to demonstrate to you how to execute an arm bar from a hook punch. He throws
a hook punch towards my head, I block. Again, I could throw a loosening-up technique so
that I can go ahead and grab the arm to sort of distract him from that. I will wrap in.
Now, also keep in mind when you do this wrap-in to wrap him nice and tight so that his arm
gets flipped around; otherwise, his arm will stay bent. And when you apply this technique,
his arm will bend and so then you will be out of luck. You have to switch into another
technique, possibly a shoulder crank to save yourself from that technique. But he throws
that punch, you wrap around so that his elbow is exposed, it sort of rolls up, elbow exposed.
The back of my arm is on the back of his elbow and so from here I can apply a technique to
lock his arm. Now also from here, I have this hand that can be freed up. I can take it and
still maintain pressure and throw a palm-heel strike or I can throw an elbow strike into
his face along with locking up his arm. If I want to, I can place my hand on his shoulder
and reach up to my own hand. You can see that I'm reaching up to my own hand and then apply
pressure up and he taps. So that is a quick way of how to execute an arm bar just from
a hook punch and also you are still using your loosening-up techniques.
