An elderly woman in Rotorua fears that someone could have died
when her house was broken in to by burglars
robbing them of their belongings
while her and her grandchildren slept.
The woman says she's usually a light sleeper,
and that if she had woken while the thieves were still in her home,
who knows what could've happened?
Here's Hinerangi Goodman with this story.
Jean Sergeant is one angry grandmother
after her home was broken in to by a burglar or burglars
as she and her whanau slept.
Jean say's the thief or thieves easily pried open this door latch
from the outside to gain entry.
To show how cocky and cheeky the burglar or burglars were,
they came through this room to where the grandmother,
grandfather and grandson slept.
They walked over to this set of drawers
and removed a television and a laptop sitting here,
then continued to move back out to the other rooms of the house.
Especially unnerving was the fact
that the burglars removed a remote control
from a granddaughters hand as she lay sleeping here in the lounge.
Police are continuing with their investigations.
