Here, we announce our open-ended strike until the following demands are met:
1 ) Cancelling the 9 percent increase in tuition fees for the 2011/2012 academic year
We explained the university's financial situation to the students..
..with complete transparency
Ali Abdel Zaher, Gardener
Our salaries are not sufficient for our needs
We only get paid LE1000
They do not reimburse us for housing, or overtime and we are not given Saturday's off
We also do not get LE200 as a reimbursement for meals
4 or 5 months ago, the workers demanded a raise and meal reimbursements
The vice president for administrative affairs sat with them..
..and they came to an agreement
We gave all employees temporary contracts
This cost the university a lot of money
Mohamed Farouk, Security guard
We were not appointed,
..we work more now
We get on a bus from Tahrir Square at 7:15 am,
..and leave at 8:15, 9:15 or 10:15 pm
AUC students and workers launch strike against soaring fees and wage cuts
AUC, 14 September 2011
Every student willing to join the student movement in taking a serious action..
..against the administration should join our protest without using any drums or horns,
..and without committing any violations
Ahmed Alaa, Student Union President, AUC
The protest escalated last Sunday
We went and spoke with the administrative staff
We, the students, had seven demands
They only agreed to five
The other two concerned tuition fees
Then we joined forces with the security personnel and maintenance workers..
..as we all need our demands to be achieved
The day before yesterday, they invited us to a forum,
..but what are we supposed to discuss after the University President sent us an e-mail..
..last night, telling us that all our demands are refused
We aren't going in to break or destroy anything
We will begin moving now in an organized manner and in silence
