Hey, you know what’s great? Paying 99 cents for an iOS game and getting all the content.
I realize the freemium model has its merits, but man...it’s great to have an entire experience
without running into walls that require in-app purchases.
The only thing you run into in this game is fire.
And never-ending pits of death.
It’s Cognitile for the iPhone.
Just released to the App Store, Cognitile...is an awesome name for a game. It’s an established
fact that I give any game that involves puns and/or wordplay a favorable review, so holy
crap, expect some outlandish praise for the next few minutes. If this dude had a dictionary
cannon attached to his shoulder...pfft, forget about it.
So you play as this little Indiana Jones dude who is trying to abscond with the hidden treasure.
Abscond, verb, to leave hurriedly and secretly, typically to avoid detection or arrest for
an unlawful action such as theft. Abscond.
Little dude, you’re an absconder.
And so perhaps deservedly so, his route to the treasure is a perilous one. The floor
collapses, walls of flames suddenly appear, huge rocks fall from the ceiling...it’s
not a good deal, man. But the thing is...little dude can see them coming. So his survival
is ultimately in your hands...actually, your memory. Memories don’t have hands.
See, each level is placed on a grid. And you have to draw a line that guides the little
dude to the treasure. But before you do that, you get to watch—through the magic of Cog
Vision—as all the level’s traps reveal themselves in sequential order. The catch,
obviously, is you have to remember where they are and the order in which they appeared.
That way your line doesn’t take him over a...
Oh, godd*mnit!
Godd*mnit. Used for emphasis to express anger or frustration. Godd*mnit.
The 60 levels get really tricky, which is awesome. It’ll take you several attempts
to get through some of them, but that’s one of the setbacks. There’s no scoring
or anything to really incentivize improving your times. It’d be nice if there were extra
treasures in each level or something, but even without them, it’s still a lot of fun
to play. And the fact that you can create and share your own levels is a huge bonus.
Cognitile is a great puzzle game. It could do a bit better job of dangling the proverbial
carrot, but if you’re down for a serious test of your memory and puzzle-solving acumen,
little dude is the dude for you. It’s Cognitile for the iPhone. Go ahead, little dude. Abscond.
Abscond with the treasure.
