Hi, my name's Lee Perkins. I'm a physical therapist and founder of HandsOnRemedy.com.
Today I'm going to talk about Plantar Fasciitis and why you should consider physical therapy
as your first option in the healing process. Plantar Fasciitis occurs when the thick band
of tissue on the bottom of your foot gets stressed and breaks down. This fascia is responsible
for helping to support your arch and stabilize the bottom of your foot. Symptoms are most
common at the heel where the tissue connects to the bone, but the pain can radiate down
towards the toes. Plantar Fasciitis most often results from overuse, poor foot mechanics
or tightness in other muscles around the ankle. Over time the tissue degenerates as it tries
to absorb the excessive loads placed on it. Symptoms tend to be worse when you first stand
in the morning and loosen as you functionally move during the day. Plantar Fasciitis can
make it challenging to be on your feet. It can effect playing your favorite sport, going
up and down stairs and even walking can be difficult.
With early Physical Therapy treatment, you can maximize your function quickly and cost
effectively. On the first visit, your Physical Therapist will perform differential diagnostic
testing to determine your exact condition. You should then expect a hands-on treatment
incorporating specialized techniques to help get the results you need. Your therapist will
also provide a home exercise program specific to your injury and the training to perform
those exercises correctly. Our goal as therapists is the same as yours; heal quickly and heal
permanently. The information you see on our website and this video should NOT be used
to determine your own condition. You should seek medical advice from a qualified professional
first. Find your Physical Therapist now at HandsOnRemedy.com, and best wishes for a speedy
recovery.
