I think being a woman has given me an advantage in the area of listening skills and relationship
skills. Sales is a lot about relationships and establishing trust, and it’s a function
of your reputation, but it takes time to develop that so the most important thing is to listen
and to listen attentively to your clients and have the opportunity to forge a relationship
based on what they are saying and asking them the questions to generate the information
you need to see what they are not saying that would be helpful to us to understand.
Why should women consider technology as a career?
There’s never been a better time than now for women to leverage their experiences in
technology. They have the opportunity to shape where the industry is headed, leveraging the
technology skills, and it can be in a traditional STEM career path or it could be in an area
of engineering or in technology or IT, but it’s also complemented by women who have
had the experience in other functional disciplines such as accounting and finance, and marketing
and management. A woman who brings an MBA to the equation, in my opinion, has the capacity
to transform our industry and to really add value to the communications industry and the
technology sector in particular.
