what we've learned about technical assistance is that
it's often best mediated by a personal relationship with uh... technical systems provider
and a number of our studies we actually in a higher and send technical assistance providers
out the sites
on an ongoing basis where they're able to really create a very strong relationship with
people
and it's true that relationship
that they push people potentially into doing more rigorous prevention work
uh... communities are really challenge was doing high quality prevention they don't all
always had the time the resources the capacity and
taking a leap into some of these areas that are harder to do can be really scary uh...
and challenging
so the ta provider who has a strong relationship can really kinda move them along because it's
you know they have a partner someone that they trust sitcom so that you know to move
them for ford and doing higher quality prevention work
and big heart of uh... the relationship building process is uh...
is actually going sort of off script for a few well and so when our title systems people
show up
you know they ought they are
they played many roles for that the person that they're sitting across south park therapists
just part you know unsympathetic year i mean there's a lot of complaining you're listening
to complaining and you know and to sort of being a good listener and emphasizing and
and also doing on we've talked about doing small favors that may or may not
the related to the actual work if you can demonstrate to people that you're there for
them since the consent i'm in a new are you know you show up your reliable uh...
and that you know you can help you can get them for the next leveled i can't even if
it goes a long way in uh... and helping people
sort of trust you and think that you have something
to offer
we helped riled one community we help them rhonda
um... sort of uh... school-wide now needs assessment and you know we got involved in
some of the logistics about i don't work and eyes is in you know way beyond i think what
to get a gal come first if model would say technical systems person should do but we
were there on-site you know planning with them and really help them bring it to fruition
and actually it was this great event that yielded a ton of information about what was
going on in school
i'm which was dead now using as a needs assessment to kind of plan the next step of their prevention
programming and they learned a lot more than they ever unit did inside some level you know
you got to ask the request in to know how to set the needs assessment but
you know you also do you need to make sure that you have enough chairs in this food here
like some of those nuts-and-bolts things and we got involved at that level if we really
they're kinda health plan in all facets of what they named counter
uh...
and i think that that goes a long way to you know building relationships
