Before purchasing lawn fertilizer, it is important to know what to look for.
The most common ingredients are nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
These macronutrients will usually be displayed in a ratio.
For example, this ratio shows 8% of the fertilizer is nitrogen, 4% is phosphorus and 8% is potassium.
There are also several micronutrients that are beneficial to lawn health.
Here are the ones we suggest.
Some other terms you may find on a fertilizer label are water soluble, meaning the nutrients are immediately available.
Non-soluble, meaning the nutrients are broken down over time.
Fast acting, which is ideal for quick results.
And slow release, which distributes nutrients over a long period of time.
