Augmentin, the brand-name form of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, is a prescription medication
used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. It is a product containing 2 medications,
amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin belongs to a group of drugs called penicillin
antibiotics, which work by stopping the growth of bacteria. Clavulanic acid belongs to a
group of drugs called beta-lactamase inhibitors, which work by preventing bacteria from destroying
amoxicillin. This medication comes in tablet, chewable tablet, and powder for oral suspension
forms that are taken 2 to 3 times a day with food. Common side effects of Augmentin include
diarrhea, nausea, and rash. It's important not to take Augmentin unless prescribed by
a doctor. For RxWiki, I'm Stephen Lozano.
