VOICE-OVER: For the cabinet, the Amsterdam Canal Parade
was once again a celebration not to be missed.
Minister Van Bijsterveldt and national and international figures
sailed along the Amsterdam canals to make clear the Netherlands
stands firmly behind the rights of homosexuals,
lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders.
CARLA LAGATA: All the bystanders, all those people watching,
they are not only watching, but they celebrate with you
and I've also seen T-shirts 'Gay for a day',
which I find absolutely great.
VOICE-OVER: And while acceptance in the Netherlands is relatively widespread,
the country also wishes to remain committed to gay rights abroad.
INTERVIEWER: The Dutch cabinet has the theme 'We stand with you'.
What does that mean for you?
HENK KROL: It means the government has the wisdom to say,
we mustn't only be like this here, but propagate it throughout the world.
I still think our best and tangible export is our open marriage
and we shouldn't keep it to ourselves.
We should share it with the world.
MINISTER VAN BIJSTERVELDT: We have properly addressed it in the Netherlands.
Although we have also to remain alert.
But if things are so good here, you are obliged to look how it is elsewhere.
Then you see many people from the LGBT-group,
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender,
are certainly not as privileged as here.
They're often suppressed, can't realise their rights
and can't be themselves. The Netherlands wants to support them.
We want to demonstrate this with this boat.
We also do it through the theme 'We stand with you'.
MAN'S VOICE: We've got one message for all the gay community in the world!
We stand with you!
PEOPLE CHEERING
WIM VAN DER CAMP: It was a great day.
All those people, also along the canals.
There were a few heavy showers, also on this Dutch government boat,
but this afternoon was a great achievement for the gay rights movement.
So, let's do it again, next year.
