We would be out on an errand or something. She would ask us if we wanted some candy.
Now if someone ever asked you if you wanted candy, how could you ever say no?
Candy, the food of the gods,
the perfect food,
the beautiful presentation, the anticipation of unwrapping,
the first sight of the shiny treat, the first burst of flavor on your tongue,
or you'd get grandma candy.
My grandma had a very different definition of candy.
A boring definition.
It was so weird,
so old fashioned that you'd think it came from a time machine in her purse.
But it did. See, when my my grandma was a kid,
this was her candy,
her one treat, her one time to be a kid.
It didn't matter if it was super simple,
lame, or foreign.
It was her way of sharing that time in her life with us
and that's what made it candy for us too.
