GE Merlin Membrane Element Hey everyone, Aquaman here with FilterDoctor.com.
Today we’re looking at the GE TLC-350 membrane. You may know it as the 1238342, but it’s
best known as the Merlin Membrane. Of course it fits inside the GE Merlin Reverse
Osmosis system, which actually takes two of these membranes that need to be changed simultaneously.
Now the TLC-350 is a wet membrane, which means compared to dry membranes it has a significantly
shorter shelf life, a maximum of 8 months refrigerated and if it’s not refrigerated
even less than that. So buying these in advance is not a good idea unless you plan on using
them right away. Now knowing when to replace your membrane
is really quite easy if you own a TDS meter. TDS is what you’re removing with the reverse
osmosis system, it’s the dissolved solids, total dissolved solids that in the water.
By using a TDS meter you can measure how much TDS your membranes are removing from the water.
When they’re new they’re going to remove about 95 plus percent, but as they wear out
slowly over time, that number will degenerate, and when you are no longer removing at least
70% of the TDS, then you need to replace your membranes.
Again, this is the GE TLC-350, better known as the Merlin Membrane, and I’m your host
Aquaman with FilterDoctor.com. Thanks for watching.
